Lyrics and MP3 Download - Wayfaring Stranger

A traditional gospel song, that describes a Christian walking the narrow way with the Lord Jesus Christ. Suffering for faith is expected, however the song's protagonist looks forward to a time when persecution in this world will end and the faithful believer will be reunited with God. The song "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" is of unknown origin, however some argue it's roots are derived from the folk songs of pioneering Irish settlers, others say it sprang from the spirituals of former African slaves. The melody is haunting and a real discovery. Listen to the MP3 below and judge for yourself.

"WAYFARING STRANGER"
I am a poor, wayfaring stranger
Wandering through this land of woe
Yet there's no sickness, toil or danger
In that bright land to which I go

I'm going home to meet my mother
She said she'll meet me when I come
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

I'll soon be free of every trial
My body rests in the old graveyard
I'll drop my cross of self denial
And enter on my great reward

I'm going home to meet my father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

I want to wear the crown of glory
When I get home to that good land
I want to shout salvation's glory
In concert with the blood washed band

I'm going there to meet my savior
To sing his praise forever more
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home
